Chiesa di Santa Lucia
Di tutte le Chiese ancora oggi esistenti in
Ferentino Santa Lucia è certamente quella più antica. Sorge nel
versante meridionale della città nella zona delle celebri terme
pubbliche che erano state dedicate a Flavia Domitilla ...>>>
Porta Sanguinaria
The Porta Sanguinaria (Bloodshed gate) is noteworthy
because of its triple culture structure: pre-Roman, Roman
and Medieval. The name 'Sanguinaria' may have been derived
from the fact that condemned prisoners had to pass through
it before being executed, or because of the bloody battles
which took place there against the Romans
Porta Maggiore
Porta Maggiore or Arches of Casamari is the
most important of all the old gates; it is made up of two
Roman arches and led directly to Terracina and to the road
junction of Casamari, the ancient Cereate.
Testamento di Aulo Quintilio
A short distance below the Porta Casamari is
a large open space, now called 'La Fata' (The Fairy), once
used only for monuments and inscribed pillars honouring the
note-worthy citizens of Ferentino. Today, in this place, at
the centre of an olive-grove, is left only the 'Testament of
Aulo Quintilio Prisco', magistrate and benefactor of the
city, who left all his lands and money to the people of
Ferentino.
Teatro Romano
Built in the first half of the 2nd century A. D., time of
great splendour for Ferentino, it bears witness to the high
level of culture reached by the people of Ferentino in those
bygone days.
To give you an idea of the size of the theatre - it once
had a diameter of 54 metres (177 Ft.). Now there remains
very little that is visible, since a large part has been
covered up by a garden and houses. This noteworthy monument
is now being further restored. |
